Data Centers + UPS = Reliable Operations

Publisert 20.03.2024

- Our commitment to advanced UPSs and monitoring sets a new standard for reliability in data centers, meeting the increasing demand.

So says Kjetil Knotten, Key Account Manager at Anda-Olsen. During the Data Centre Forum in Oslo, an event celebrating ten years of innovation and collaboration in the data center industry, Kjetil, along with colleague Øyvind Strømsheim, were introduced to a segment filled with opportunities and new insights.

The forum, which gathered prominent experts to explore the future of data centers, focused on current topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), the increasing need for energy, and the power of automation. This underscores Anda-Olsen's commitment to continuous development and the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the industry.

From ENIAC to AI

The journey from the first gigantic rooms of ENIAC, one of the very first computers in the 1940s, to today's advanced, AI-powered data centers tells a story of rapid transformation within computer technology.

This development has established data centers as the backbone of our digital economy, highlighting their role as a foundation for an increasingly data-driven world. Today's data centers must handle everything from cloud services to groundbreaking developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) - which pose ever-higher demands on both capacity and sustainability.

- Being prepared for AI's future role is important. Our solutions are designed to meet not just today's needs, but also to face tomorrow's challenges, Kjetil Knotten says.

Inspired by Diederik Samsom's opening speech at the Data Centre Forum about Europe's green transition, sustainability is highlighted as the core of the future of data centers. This fits well with Anda-Olsen's focus on developing more environmentally friendly solutions for current and future needs.

UPS and Monitoring

An UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is critical for ensuring smooth and reliable operation of data centers. Anda-Olsen offers customized and advanced solutions that meet the stringent requirements of data centers, emphasizing functionality and adaptability.

Anda Cloud introduces a new era in monitoring (IoT), offering real-time insights into the system's condition, accessible through a user-friendly app for PC and mobile. This innovation has proactive management of challenges and promotes more streamlined operations.

- Our commitment to advanced UPSs and monitoring sets a new standard for reliability in data centers, meeting the increasing demand for efficiency and stability, Kjetil explains.

By providing solutions tailored to the needs of data centers, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, Anda-Olsen positions itself as a player for those seeking maximum reliability and efficiency in an increasingly environmentally conscious and data-driven world.

By offering Riello's Multipower 2, Anda-Olsen distinguishes itself not only by offering technically superior products but also solutions that provide significant energy savings and are less taxing on the environment.

Navigating in Future Trends

The forum also put a spotlight on crucial trends that will shape the industry further: artificial intelligence (AI), increasing energy requirements, and the significance of automation as well as how data centers are key to further innovation and efficiency in a technology-driven world.

Particularly, the importance of edge data centers, which process data closer to the source, was presented. This contributes to significant improvements in many areas, from the development of autonomous vehicles to the optimization of network communications, and is crucial for efficiently handling the increasing amount of data.

Erik Gjesdal's presentation from Schneider Electric on the impact of AI emphasized the importance of data centers quickly adapting to technological advancements. This is entirely in line with Anda-Olsen's goal to stay ahead with technological innovations and solutions.

Artificial intelligence (AI) introduces an era of increased demand in the industry, requiring extensive adjustments. To meet the growing capacity for data processing that AI needs, we must both upgrade existing data centers and develop new ones capable of meeting these demands.

Power Production: Technological innovation, such as IoT, 5G and AI, is increasing energy usage. Researchers estimate that the demand for power by data centers will reach 35 gigawatts by 2030. This necessitates the modernization of the power grid, especially in rural and overseas areas, to meet future needs.

- The increase in energy demand challenges us to innovate. At Anda-Olsen, we work for more sustainable power solutions for the future, Øyvind Strømsheim tells us.

Automation: To handle the rapid development, the market demands increased automation. This includes planning, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting, which gives workers more time to focus on critical tasks. Automation becomes even more important given the current economic situation and labor shortage.

Anda-Olsen is Looking Forward

- The forum underscores the importance of sustainable innovation; it's no longer just an opportunity, but a requirement. Greener technology must lie more at the core of what we do, Øyvind Strømsheim says.

- This inspires us to explore new strategies that both reduce the burden on the planet and increase energy efficiency in the data centers we collaborate with.

Kjetil Knotten and Øyvind Strømsheim from Anda-Olsen take home valuable insights from the Data Centre Forum in Oslo, knowledge that will shape the company's strategy for the segment moving forward. With a focus on what's coming, Anda-Olsen is well prepared to keep pace with developments, ready to meet today's challenges and explore future opportunities.
